U.S. Dept. of Energy Says MICHELIN®
X One® Tires Save Up To 10 Percent on Fuel

Oak Ridge National Lab’s four-year study compares X One tires to duals

Still don’t believe MICHELIN® X One® Tires can save you fuel? A recent 383-page report by the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory confirmed what Michelin has been saying for years that wide single tires, like MICHELIN® X One® Tires, are more fuel efficient than duals on heavy trucks—to the tune of 6 percent overall and 10 percent with a fully-loaded tractor-trailer.

More than 700,000 real-world miles were driven by six instrumented tractors and 10 trailers over the course of the four-year test. The data was collected at five times per second on 60 channels for one year during the tests. Half of the tractors were outfitted with MICHELIN® X One® Tires, and half with standard duals. Half of the trailers were outfitted with MICHELIN® X One® Tires, two with standard duals, and three with dual retreads.

INTRODUCING THE NEW MICHELIN® XZA3® ANTISPLASH TIRE

Making Wet Highways Safer

Truckers who have come to rely on the fuel-efficient, long-lasting MICHELIN® XZA3® truck tire can now increase safety on the highway using Michelin technology. With the patented Antisplash deflector on both of the tire’s sidewalls, the new MICHELIN XZA3 Antisplash tire helps make highways safer by lowering the trajectory of water spraying from the tires. Lower splash trajectory means less water on windshields, significantly improving overall visibility in heavy rain for oncoming and overtaking motorists, as well as truck drivers.

  • Enhanced visibility
  • Uncompromised traction
  • 80 percent wider shoulder rib than the XZA2® Antisplash tire
  • Advanced Technology compounding with 19/32nds tread depth
  • Carries MICHELIN’s 7 Year/70,000 Mile/3 Retread Manufacturer’s Limited Casing Warranty

Michelin Durable Technologies

Michelin Durable Technologies brings together two technology "families."

The first "family": tread designs that regenerate with wear currently associating patented sipes shaped as a "Raindrop" and as a "Double Wave."

Michelin Durable Technologies

The second "family" is the innovative tire architecture, using Infini-Coil Technology.

Infini-Coil Technology™

These two major innovations fall under the protection of patents that allow Michelin to establish new standards of performance such as weight reduction, improvements in durability, load capacity and traction - advances are considerable in all areas. As they roll, tires gradually become smooth and lose their grip.
But the new "Michelin Durable Technologies" self-regenerating tread design restores exceptional grip even after the tread is two-thirds worn.
The design's "matrix" siping helps deliver optimized mileage. As the tread begins to wear, the "Raindrop" sipes open to create new channels that effectively restore the tire's grip. After the tire is two thirds worn, the tread pattern begins to change.
"Michelin Durable Technologies" offers customers major benefits in terms of increased mileage and lasting performance, which could add up to improved safety and profitability.

In five years, "Michelin Durable Technologies" will be deployed on most of Michelin's truck tire lines.
From now until 2011, the Group will invest a total of $500 million to produce more than four million new tires and retreads incorporating this state-of-the-art technology.

"Michelin Durable Technologies" is truly a revolution in the trucking industry.
