Michelin Durable Technologies
Michelin Durable Technologies brings together two technology "families."
The first "family": tread designs that regenerate with wear currently associating patented sipes shaped as a "Raindrop" and as a "Double Wave."
The second "family" is the innovative tire architecture, using Infini-Coil Technology™.
These two major innovations fall under the protection of patents that allow Michelin to establish new standards of performance such as weight reduction, improvements in durability, load capacity and traction - advances are considerable in all areas.
As they roll, tires gradually become smooth and lose their grip.
But the new "Michelin Durable Technologies" self-regenerating tread design restores exceptional grip even after the tread is two-thirds worn.
The design's "matrix" siping helps deliver optimized mileage. As the tread begins to wear, the "Raindrop" sipes open to create new channels that effectively restore the tire's grip. After the tire is two thirds worn, the tread pattern begins to change.
"Michelin Durable Technologies" offers customers major benefits in terms of increased mileage and lasting performance, which could add up to improved safety and profitability.
In five years, "Michelin Durable Technologies" will be deployed on most of Michelin's truck tire lines.
From now until 2011, the Group will invest a total of $500 million to produce more than four million new tires and retreads incorporating this state-of-the-art technology.
"Michelin Durable Technologies" is truly a revolution in the trucking industry.
